Anh-Thuy Nguyen (b. 1983, Nha Trang City, Vietnam) is an interdisciplinary artist whose work includes photography, video, installation, and performance art. As an immigrant, Nguyen delves into conflicting emotions, feelings, and thoughts portrayed through hauntingly beautiful visuals of gain and loss. Boat Journey is an ongoing photographic project that seeks a place where immigrants belong. A figure dressed in a traditional Vietnamese tunic and pants, áo dài, holds onto a small makeshift leather boat. This boat is the passport to escape. However, it gets stuck on the land, and can never be set free.
